Treasurer

John Mark Trent, PhD *

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Alabama Educational Psychology (minor in counseling psychology)

I would consider it an honor to serve on as treasurer under the guidance of the entire board.Through the Samaritan Counseling Center I provide about 22 hours of therapy per week to families and individuals. I teach the research/stat courses at a local university (graduate level). Besides my clinical training, my expertise is in statistics, measurement theory/issues, and program evaluation. My interests in serving on the Association of Marital and Family Therapy National Regulatory Board are as follows. First, as part of our state regulatory board for over six years I assisted our licensure applicants to better understand the function of the EXAM and thereby demystify the EXAM PROCESS. I believe the EXAM FORM and FUNCTION needs to be continually followed at the national level. Second, within our state we have enjoyed the process of working with our state professional association by helping clarify the distinct functions and responsibilities of regulatory boards and professional associations. This has resulted in a more open understanding of the structure and purpose of the licensure board...as we have said at our state meeting, "we (the licensure board) are not here to keep anyone from obtaining a license, but to insure the laws of our state which govern that process are carried out with fairness and equity." Lastly, I am interested in the impact of our "Continuing Education Unit" system upon the continuing competency of our licensees. Questions like, "do CEU's help keep MFTs on the cutting edge of therapy?" or "do 'old-timers' in MFT continue to grow personally and professionally within the system of the CEU's?" These questions can best be addressed both at a state level and national level.

Secretary

Anna Cole, M S, LMFT (in private practice in Calhoun, LA) *

Experience
AMFTRB: Delegate 8 years, Chair of Election Committee 06-07, member of portability and continuing competency committees, currently board secretary
Louisiana MFT Committee, LPC Board: Chair, Chair of the MFT and LPC Rules Committee for two terms ending in 2010. Provided leadership and administration in establishing MFT licensure in the state.

I was appointed for one year to fill an unexpired term as secretary and would be honored to be able to continue my work in this position for a second year.AMFTRB was an important resource for me when I served on the state regulatory board and I'm excited to be involved in the leadership at the national level, helping to shape new policies and resources and facilitating the sharing of issues and solutions by the delegates throughout the year and at the annual conference.

Member-At-Large

W. Jeff Hinton, PhD, LMFT

I currently serve as Chair of the MFT Committee for the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists. In addition to my regulatory board experience, I am the Director of Clinical Training for a Marriage and Family Therapy master’s program.I have been an MFT educator for 10 years, practicing marriage and family therapist for 12 years and MFT regulatory board member for 7 years. Through my participation in AMFTRB annual meetings, I have grown keenly aware of the diversity of issues facing regulatory practices nationally. I strongly believe in the mission of AMFTRB and look forward to the opportunity to serve in the organization.Because the current challenges facing state regulatory boards are significant, multifaceted and contextual, the need for support from a strong national organization is paramount.AMFTRB provides a powerful national forum for communicating regulatory challenges to important stakeholders including the public, professional associations, accrediting organizations, legislative bodies and academic program directors. The need for transparency and meaningful dialogue seem especially important for the continued development of the profession at this time.I would like to see AMFTRB take a more active role in the collection, codification and dissemination of regulatory information that could be utilized by member boards to address current and future challenges.
